Workshop Offerings for Kids

Puppetry is an amazing means of encouraging expression in shy children, developing literacy, hand/eye coordination, and delving into the imagination.

Workshop

Sandglass offers a variety of workshops for children at various grade levels. Each workshop is a one to two hour session in which we construct a simple puppet that is appropriate for the age group we are working with (styles include: Sock Puppets, Marionettes, Rod Puppets, Shadow Puppets, and building puppets from recycled materials). The building will be followed by a brief lesson in bringing your puppet to life. Each participant gets to take their hand-made puppet home.

We require a power outlet, work tables and chairs, and some building materials. We will need assistants for groups that have more than 10 children.

Residency

In this week or two week period we will explore the adventure of creating a puppet show. Each participant will create a puppet; we will construct and paint a set out of cardboard, rehearse and perform a puppet show at the end of the residency. We will play team building games to build the confidence of the group, develop performative skills, and learn how to manipulate a puppet. We can customize the story to support the curriculum being studied in the classroom.

We require a power outlet, work tables and chairs, and some building materials. We will need assistants after 10 children.

Please contact us if you are interested in a workshop or residency so we can work with you to find the teaching model that best suits your group.
