When I Put On Your Glove

by Shoshana Bass

November 23 & 24 at 7:30 pm

This year as part of the Putney Craft Tour Sandglass Theater is pleased to present When I Put on Your Glove, A piece about belonging, memory and love between genterations. This piece is performed and created by Shoshana Bass based on a signature work of her father, Eric Bass.

When I Put On Your Glove is a puppetry, dance and spoken word piece that explores a daughter’s relationship to her father’s work building upon a premise that puppets are containers of memory. In it, a daughter explores what it means for her to slip into her father’s art – and not just the form, but the actual pieces.

Performances are Saturday and Sunday November 23 and 24 at 7:30 pm at Sandglass Theater in Putney, Vermont. Tickets are $16 students/seniors and $18 general admission and $25 for supporters. Reservations in advance are recommended and can be made by calling (802) 387 – 4051 or email info@sandglasstheater.org

Puppet Crimes

Kasper and Gretel
by Jana Zeller, Spybird Theater

November 31 & December 1 at 7:30 pm

Sandglass Theater in Putney will present Puppet Crimes, an original hand puppet show by Jana Zeller and her Spybird Theater. This raucous puppet piece features traditional German hand puppet heroes Kasper and Gretel as they struggle to survive in an old shack on the margins of society. As the centuries pass through their little puppet booth, war is always raging and Kasper tries to avoid getting blamed, arrested and drafted, yet this petty puppet always ends up being the scapegoat for larger crimes. In a grotesque world of gun-runners, outhouses, and a declining monarchy, Kasper (with the humor and wit of the common man) ducks out from under authority and manages to survive another 200 years. This is an action packed work in progress show, inspired by German, British and Italian hand puppet traditions.

Performances are Friday and Saturday November 31st and December 1st at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12 for students/seniors and $14 for general admission and $20 for supporters. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling (802)387-4051 or email info@sandglasstheater.org.

The Sandglass Theater Crankie Weekend

performances by renowned area artists

December 15 at 4 and 7:30 pm, December 16 at 3 pm

The weekend of December 15th and 16th will bring together a dynamic collection of artists to share their work, song, and magical cranking devices in the celebration of the storytelling medium which has recently become so popular across New England.

With the serenade of ballads, stories, comic songs and originally composed music, an exciting team of artists will present an assortment of beautifully handcrafted crankies for your delight and entertainment. Crankies are scrolling illustrations, wound inside a wooden box and then hand-cranked so that the images move across a viewing screen. Once called “moving panoramas”, crankies were as close as it got to films in the early 19th century. Recently crankies have made a fresh and invigorated appearance throughout the nation, appearing in circuses, music events and yes…puppet theaters.

Saturday December 15 at 4 and 7:30 pm & Sunday December 16 at 3 pm at Sandglass Theater, Kimball Hill Putney, VT. Tickets are $16 for students/seniors, $18 for general admission and $25 for supporters. Reservations are strongly recommended as seating is limited. Please reserve your tickets at info@sandglasstheater.org or by calling 802 387 4051.
