When I Put On Your Glove

Away and Here

Last year Eric Bass took Autumn Portraits to the Lizé International Puppet Festival in Taiwan then returned to Putney to play this signature piece at Sandglass Theater for the last time. This year Shoshana Bass will bring her adaptation of the work in When I Put on Your Glove to the festival in Taiwan and return to play on the Sandglass stage during the Putney Craft Tour weekend. It is a special full circle in the passing of a legacy in puppetry to the next generation.

When I Put On Your Glove is a puppetry, dance and spoken word piece that explores a daughter’s relationship to her father’s work building upon a premise that puppets are containers of memory. In it, a daughter explores what it means for her to slip into her father’s art – and not just the form, but the actual pieces. This work addresses universal questions of belonging, childhood, fear of loss, death and the complicated nature of navigating generational artistic legacy.

Within the Sandglass organization, Shoshana has stepped forward to take up the position of co-director alongside Eric as he and Ines move away from leadership to focus on the creative aspect. This year Shoshana has been touring with three Sandglass productions, taking the helm as producer for a successful Puppets in the Green Mountains festival and working with the Sandglass board and staff to establish sustainable systems of operation.

Inspired by our guests at the Puppet Festival who brought new ideas of access to our community, Shoshana will offer a “Touch Tour” for those who benefit from a closer interaction with the puppets and scenery. The touch tour consists of verbal descriptions of the set and an opportunity to feel the fixtures, fittings and textures of the scenery, and to meet Shoshana who will describe her character and costume, and answer any questions that you might have that would help you enjoy the show. If you wish to attend the Touch Tour before the performance, please inform the Box Office while making your reservation (24 hours notice needed). Contact us

We are providing “social stories” available online for audience members that want preparation and a preview of what the experience of attending the theater will be like. You can receive the social story via email by request.
