Sandglass Theater is pleased to present a work-in-progress show by Kalob Martinez and Blaari Gulledge.
Velcro Kitty was king of his block in the big city of Houston, Texas. He knew how to navigate around cars, other cats, and the dreaded dogs, but now he faces a brand new challenge. His people are acting strange and they have put all their belongings in giant boxes–Velcro is worried. In this new Kalob Puppet Co. production, Velcro Kitty travels across the country and faces the challenges of moving to new neighborhood in small-town Connecticut filled with big cats and creatures he has never seen before. Can Velcro be king again? A story about finding your way, making new friends, dealing with bullies, and finding balance. This show is 40 minutes long and recommended for ages 4+.
Kalob Martinez is an alumnus of the UConn Puppet Arts program, and is the programming and Education Assistant at the Ballard Institute. He is originally from Texas and served as the Associate Artist of the Classical Theatre Company in Houston, for five season before moving to Connecticut. His stage credits include the Hartford Stage, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Alley Theatre, and the Houston Grand Opera. He is also a seasoned voice actor for the English dubs of Anime titles include Starship Troopers Invasion, Halo Legends, No. 6, and Murdock Scramble. Currently he is a company member of Sandglass Theater and is in the touring company of their newest show, Babylon.
Blair Gulledge designed the puppets and scenery for the Velcro Show! She is a costume designer with design credits at the Hartford Stage, TheatreWorks (Hartford), Alley Theatre (Houston), and the Kennedy Center. She is currently the costume shop manager at the Hartford Stage.
