Visiting performing company during Puppets in the Green Mountains

“In September 2018 we were lucky enough to be invited to the Puppets in the Green Mountains Festival hosted by the wonderful Sandglass Theater.

This was our first visit to the US with our production Meet Fred, and from start to finish the experience of working with Sandglass has been an absolute pleasure. This began with lengthy planning via email and video calls to ensure everything was in place for our visit, no easy task as it turned out given the complicated visa process for visiting artists.

On arrival what struck me, beyond the shear wonder if this beautiful little theatre, was just how embedded Sandglass are within the communities of Putney and Battleboro. For a town of the size of Putney to have its very own puppet theatre is something very special indeed, and demonstrates how the arts can be and should be at the heart of all communities.

From the moment we arrived the welcome we had was overwhelming. As a company that works with nuerodivergent performers access is very important to us, and Sandglass went out of their way to ensure all our needs were met. It was also fantastic that the festival were able to provide ASL interpreters for our performance.

For many of us this was our first visit to the US, and we left knowing that we have to make sure we come back again soon.”
