Photobooth videos record moving audience reactions to D-Generation

Sandglass Theater’s current touring production, D-Generation: An Exaltation of Larks, elicits strong audience responses.  These range from those who appreciate the way the piece artfully takes the audience into the world of persons with dementia, as well as those for whom it resonates because of first-hand experiences with a loved one with dementia.

To record these responses, Sandglass set up the PhotoBooth Project at performances in Burlington, VT, to videotape audience members talking about their expectations before the performance of D-Generation and their reactions afterwards.  This captures the immediacy and the diversity of audience feedback.

Christopher Irion, a Putney-based photographer and former Sandglass Board member, is Creative Director of  He has developed a small, lightweight portable studio in which this work was shot, allowing a private space in a public place for people to share their experiences.  Michael Hanish, a southern Vermont videographer and Sandglass project coordinator, assisted.

Audiences will again have the opportunity to participate in the Photobooth Project at 2 of Sandglass Theater’s upcoming performances:
